Teng Hort - Garment worker

Previously a farmer, Teng Hort, 28, decided to join the garment factory to earn a stable living.

“Being a farmer meant that I had to do a lot of work. It is tiring and not very rewarding. We spend more than what we earn. So I decided to get a job here,” says Hort.

He earns a better salary and is only required to do eight hour shifts as per the labour law.

Hort, who is in charge of sewing coats for export at Hongdou International Garment Co Ltd, works in SSEZ with his 23-year-old wife, employed in a furniture factory.
